According to an airport spokesperson, more than 57 percent of the Navi Mumbai airport’s construction is finished, with plans for a commercial launch by December 2024.

Approximately 2800 meters of the 3700-meter runway has been laid, with the rest set for completion following the flattening of a hillock on-site by the end of January. Concurrently, construction of the terminal, ATC tower, and ancillary buildings is progressing.

Indian Oil Corporation is set to install a common-use underground fuel pipeline connecting Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust to the airport. Fuel facilities within the terminal are being developed by the airport operator. Contracts for baggage handling, x-ray machines, and aircraft rescue and fire-fighting vehicles have been finalized in preparation for the airport’s launch next year.

Regarding the timeline, the spokesperson mentioned, “Navi Mumbai Airport International Pvt. Ltd. took charge of construction in August 2021 after a change in management. Presently, the company is dedicated to completing the initial and subsequent phases, aiming for commercial operations by December 2024.” Initially, the airport is projected to accommodate 20 million passengers annually.

Highlighting the progress made, the spokesperson stated, “Significant work has been done on the airside, landside, and runway. Terminal building work is also progressing rapidly. As of November 30th, we have completed 57 percent of the physical work on-site.”

The Adani group took over the project from the GVK group in 2021. Despite previous obstacles such as legal disputes and land acquisition delays, efforts are underway to expedite the project’s completion.

The airport is planned to be developed in five phases, featuring interconnected terminals for hub operations. “Our passenger terminals are designed for ease of access, ensuring convenient walking distances from check-in to boarding gates. We aim to integrate traditional Indian ambiance with futuristic elegance and functionality,” the spokesperson added.
