Mumbai: As the development work for the expanded (SCLR Extension) route of the Chembur-Santacruz Link Road intensifies, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has initiated the construction of the cable-stayed bridge. This bridge is planned between Vakola Nalla and Panbai International School. The target set by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is to complete the construction of this bridge by April 2024.
The most crucial aspect is that once the bridge is completed, the route from Kalina to Andheri will become traffic-free. Orthotropic Steel Deck (OSD) is being utilized in the construction of these bridges, which are lighter and quicker in construction compared to concrete.
Use of Orthotropic Steel Deck… The construction of OSD is being done with high-grade steel. Chemical treatments were also carried out to protect this deck from corrosion. Work has begun to assemble the deck for the bridge by joining 56 sections of OSD, each measuring 4 by 10.5 meters. Currently, the installation of two parts of OSD on the bridge is underway. The upper part of the OSD will also be placed on the bridge from February 2024 onwards.
This project has incurred an expenditure of approximately 670 crores, and it is preparing for the expansion of the SCLR. Upon completion of this project, the journey from the Eastern Express Highway to the Western Express Highway will become much more convenient.
