The CIDCO administration is considering various options for access routes in this area. New city to be built in 11 phases
CIDCO has emphasized the development of a 561 square kilometer area under the Navi Mumbai Project. The development of this new city will be executed in 11 phases. The construction of the Shivdi-Nhava Sheva sea bridge by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has been completed, and the bridge is set to open for access soon. The MMRDA plans to develop villages near this sea bridge, creating another smaller city, pending approval from the state government.
MMRDA’s Responsibility
Under the second phase of the CIDCO Naina project, 80 out of 152 villages have already been excluded, and the responsibility to develop these villages has been handed over to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority. The process of building small cities around airports by various authorities of the state government has begun in a phased manner. It is estimated that the population here will multiply several times compared to old Navi Mumbai.
Possibility of integrating the project with Navi Mumbai Airport
The first phase will involve studying the 19-kilometer metro project from Targhar railway station to Ambivli. There’s also consideration for linking the Kalamboli-Chikhale-Kon (NH 4 highway) route with CIDCO’s Taloja MIDC to Khandeshwar (Metro Line 2) and Pendhar to CIDCO Taloja (Metro Line 3). Furthermore, a study report will be prepared to merge the Kalamboli-Chikhale-Kon route with the planned Kalyan-Taloja metro route, potentially designing a circular metro.
Benefiting Panvel and Ulwe residents
The plan is to connect the Kalamboli-Chikhale-Kon metro line with the ‘Naina’ project. The development of these two metro projects in Naina will provide travel opportunities for residents of the Naina region, Panvel city, and New Panvel Colony via the metro. This metro line will stretch from New Panvel, Panvel Bus Stand, Panvel Industrial Estate, Karanala Sports Academy in Panvel to Navi Mumbai Airport and Ulwe.
