The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link project, when will it start? Announcement of the new inauguration date for MTHL, read more

MTHL Inauguration Date: The dream of Mumbai residents for over 50 years is about to be fulfilled. Soon, the inauguration of an ambitious project in Mumbai will take place. According to the available information, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link project will start soon. Initially planned to commence on December 25, 2023, coinciding with the birth anniversary of the late former Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

However, due to the project not being completed on schedule, the inauguration date has been postponed once again. Efforts have been made since the 1970s to ease the traffic congestion in Mumbai.

During the 1970s, plans were set to connect Mumbai and Navi Mumbai through a sea bridge to reduce traffic congestion. However, this plan remained unrealized even after five decades.

In 2018, work began on the coastal road to connect Mumbai and Navi Mumbai directly. This marked the commencement of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link project. This includes the development of the longest sea bridge in the country, connecting Shivdi to Nhava Sheva.

The work for this project began approximately five years ago and has now been completed within the last few months. Within the next two months, this project will be open to the general public.

According to media reports, this project is expected to commence within the next two months. The Deputy Chief Minister of the state and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also provided significant information about the inauguration of this project.

Fadnavis had indicated that this project was supposed to start on December 25. However, due to the delayed completion schedule, the situation appears different. Hence, this project will now commence in the new year.

The government has set a target to commence this project by the end of January 2024. Therefore, the dreams of Mumbai residents are soon to be realized. Once completed, this project will reduce travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to just 15 to 20 minutes.

As toll collection is necessary while using the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, an open-road tolling system will be implemented. Hence, vehicles won’t need to stop for toll collection.

Additionally, expertise in Fastag stickers has been developed to collect tolls without vehicle stoppage. This technology, developed in collaboration with the transportation department, will aid in toll collection from vehicle operators seamlessly.
